My horse has issue striding up to a jump! He is on his correct lead, I’m not getting ahead of him and I always drive him forward. But he always takes off a stride ahead of take or to close to the jumping cause the pole to knock over what do I do?
Canter poles are great but it is YOUr job to tell him where to take off, not his to try to figure it out. Also, you should not be driving him forward to the jumps…
I agree with Carol. Sometimes counting strides in your head/out loud helps you to not drive your seat all the time. Obviously sometimes you do need to push them to get the correct spot, however you do not need to do this to all jumps. Like Carol said, just keep a nice pace and let the jump just come to you.

If you are “driving him forward”, you are chasing him past the distance. Relax and let the jump come to you!
