Rouxletto

So I just received the little video snippets my mother took the last time she visited one of my schooling sessions with Roux. This was in late February. Video quality is poor because she filmed them on the phone…sorry about that. In the last clip you can’t even really tell we’re doing ones unless you really look… I’d really like to get some good quality, longer-length footage of us in the near future but that’s not likely to happen until we find a show to compete in. I’ve got finals coming up in the next two weeks, so the new plan since I wasn’t able to show during the EHV-1 outbreak is to look for somewhere in May so that we can do our first I-2 after I’m done with finals week.

Oh, and here’s a picture of the goober from our time together today. He never learned as a youngster to deal with being in a pasture, so he’s got absolutely zero ideas concerning self-preservation when he’s loose. Because of that, I have to walk him out to the paddock for ~15 minute intervals (after that, he’s done running around and just wants to go back to his stall) so that I can keep an eye on him. I took this picture today and couldn’t believe just how fit and big he’s gotten muscularly. There’s certainly even been a change since the video was taken…we’ve really been working hard on our passage-piaffe and we started putting a lot of emphasis on his balance in the ones once he figured out he could “do” them, and it’s really changed his body shape especially around the shoulders and neck!

Any Region 6 JRs Looking For A Free Mount For NAJYRC?

I saw this on CoTH today and figured that this was a good place to post this up. It appears as if someone is looking to let a talented Jr ride their horse in an attempt to qualify for NAJYRC this year.

Schooling Outside

Schooling outside

It’s been a big mix of hot and cold here in Florida the past couple of weeks. The other day it got chilly again and I donned one of the two sweaters I own and made the trek into our outdoor ring to enjoy the cool weather for test-riding! Our first show of the season is in Ocala next weekend and I can only hope for this lovely weather to hold up because Roux and I much prefer chilly competition mornings to the typical hot and humid ones we tend to get in Region 3.

Here’s a shot of the half-pass zig-zag in the I-2…I feel as if perhaps my shoulders are a bit stiff and that I probably don’t have my left shoulder aligned like I should?

Karen, I am in fact still a young adult. Last year was my final year competing with my horse as a Young Rider on the NAYRC team. I’m still only 21, so once I fix any of the mistakes that I know are probably inevitable the first few times out with piaffe/passage/ones in the I-2, I certainly have hopes of qualifying for the Brentina Cup. It’s my last big goal for us before I’ll have to put competitive dressage aside to go to vet school and hopefully carry out plans of practicing equine sports medicine. I’m already squeezing as much time out of riding as I can by doing both my undergrad and very soon my masters degree before moving…I know that if I don’t get these things done now, I probably will never have the chance again. Luckily I have very understanding and supportive parents who don’t mind.

Another Photo…

Here’s another photograph taken after the previous warm-up photo. I didn’t post it initially because of the somewhat strange angle and cut-off right hind hoof, but it’s at a better point in the stride. :)

This is Rouxletto and myself practicing, practicing, practicing!

Rouxletto – New

Here is a photograph taken today of Rouxletto and myself schooling…I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted, but we’ve been in-between levels and working on putting many new things together. In three weeks, we will compete in our first Intermediare 2 competition. Any and all critiques are welcome. :)

Region 3 Intermediare 1 JR/YR Champions

This one’s for those of you who are told that you may not be able to make it on your horse. My horse has never been the most expensive one in the barn, doesn’t have perfect conformation, and isn’t the most expressive unless I make the effort to manufacture his gaits. I got him when he was 5 and I was 12; some people told me that we were an impossible match and that I’d never get anywhere on such a psychologically unsound young horse. In the past year or so, though, we’ve accomplished being 2011 Region 3 4th Level JR/YR Champions and Prix St Georges Reserve Champions, qualified for and competed at NAJYRC, and are now the 2012 Region 3 Intermediare 1 JR/YR Champions. We’re moving on now to the I-2 this season and hope to start doing Brentina Cup by fall. It has never been an easy road with him, but this just proves that with a lot of hard work and a willing horse, you can make anything happen. Never give up!

Any and all critiques are welcome; I’m always willing to try to improve! Also, Heather, I took your advice and I’ve been working on those pirouettes. My scores for them came up 1-2 points each time this time around! :)

A teammate of mine from NAJYRC was the Reserve Champion, so we took our last victory gallop as Young Riders together!

Albion SLK Ultima 17.5″ MW Dressage Saddle – SOLD

Albion SLK Ultima 17.5″ MW Black Dressage Saddle

This saddle is in very good condition, has only been used on one horse in the past, and has been kept in a climate-controlled tack room. The reason I am selling it is because my horse has outgrown it and now uses a saddle with a wide tree.

Intermediare-1

Here are a couple of photos of my horse and myself competing for the second time ever in Intermediare-1 this weekend! We took home the blue ribbon both days. Any and all critiques are welcome!

Samshield Contest: NAJYRC

This past week, my horse and I had the honor of competing at the North American Junior/Young Rider Championships in Lexington, KY. It was our first time competing on a team internationally, as well as our first time competing at a competition so large. I’ve owned and trained my guy since he we were both young and green, and it has always been my dream to make it onto a Young Rider team. It’s been so wild to see my childhood dreams come true. My next goal with him is to do the Intermediare 1 championships this October on him and then to move on to the I-2 and Brentina Cup Finals for the Young Rider Grand Prix within the next year. Here’s a picture of us schooling at NAJYRC!

Rouxletto – Video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZNtgbjCnqE

Here is a video that was taken of Rouxletto and myself today during a short workout. A couple of months back I posted some pictures for critique and mentioned that we were attempting to qualify for the Region 3 Young Rider team at Prix St Georges level. Since then, we have officially made the team and will be one of four girls representing the Southeastern region of the United States at the Kentucky Horse Park next month for championships. With NAJYRC looming a month away, I’m looking for every possible way to improve ourselves before the competition. :)

Also, if anyone wants to follow our experiences at Young Riders, I do have a blog!
