Not a great day at my first show of the year today. Heather stopped twice at the first few jumps in the 90cms (I was told to drive not kick by a trainer but it didnt really work…) but then continued the course in fine style :D It was her first show in three years so I was happy :) Blue on the other hand decided to be a stubborn head today (its the cruising in him  >.< ) and wanted to gallop everywhere. I held him back too much and we got 3 refusals (which is awful….) in 1m. Had regained some pride until he decided to run out at the last jump of a BIG 1.1m. So it wasnt our day.

Still please with how both rode after\between their misbehaving. Ohh and Finally got a nice show jacket – it’s american :P

Please judge Heather and I, thank you :) We have a equitation qualifer for the RDS in a month  :D

P.s thank you for the Samshield :D

You’ve never seen that much of Heather, apart from a few pictures here and there. So I thought I’d get the camera out while we were jumping and get a few shots :) She’s completely different to Blue in every single way, but she’s thought be alot.

If you couldnt see my legs in the other picture, boots are broken, getting new ones soon don’t worry :)

Hi guys! Wow didnt post in a while and then BOOM 2 in a few days! This was our first 1.1m in 5 months, stupidly forgot to check my girth (another thing I’ll never do twice Carol!) didnt get a great stride to the first 2, and then the saddle slipped. We knocked a few then because I didnt ride properly. Stopped half way through a jumpoff (we had quite a few faults anyhow!) and did the girth, then contined. Stupid round but when it was good (esp. after the girth!) It was lovely. This is the last fence, the first part of a 3-stride related distance. The second time you jumped this fence you circled away from the second part, thus why I was turning midair :)

Also do you think Blue is using his neck a bit more? Felt like he was! Still not tucking up, so he must be finding these easy!

P.s  I have stolen the Samshield, but stolen is such a cruel word, I like to call it “Adopted”  hehe

Only half decent picture I have….Hmm Mammy needs to go on a photography course me thinks!

This is from a Working Hunter show at a local E.C 2 weeks ago – you saw the picture Roisin number 2 put up, that’s from the same show. We missed the 153cm class, which was a qualifer (didnt realise it was the class and we were warming up during the class! Stupidly there was no announcer, signs or anything up though, so it wasnt really our fault!)  and there was like 7 classes before the Performance 1m . By the time the Performance came Heather had been warmed up three times (we then decided to go into a flat, where she wouldnt flex on the left as usual, but shes better – but shes getting there!)  By the time we were warming up the last time Heather had gotten fed up. To top it off we were then told you needed a back protector, which we didnt have, so I had to borrow one that didnt fit me at all. Gah between that, Heather deciding she was a race horse, we got 8 faults and 3rd (either last or second last I think :P ) But ahh well, we’ll get there, and we’ve learnt that she doesnt want much warming up!

Dont know how much you can see from this picture, it’s pretty awful as we havent broken (is that the word? I mean we havent gotten to the highest point) the jump yet, but judge what you can!

Putting this in working hunter but like Roisin Eile* said you can change it if its not right.

*Eile is Irish for other hahah I’ll call her that from know on ;)

Thought you’d be interested to see how we spent our St. Patricks day – Soaking wet on the ponies in the middle of 3 parades AHHH.

To advertise the opening of our stables Mam decided that we would ride (me, my sister and the second Roisin on JMR Roisin Collins) would ride in the parades. All ponies were sooo well behaved – Parades do get a bit mental here! The only times we had the teeniest bit of trouble was when Blue met a pipe band (together with kilts, flags, banners and drums >.< ) and when a HUGE tractor got too close to my sister’s pony.

Other than that they were amazing! Pictures don’t really do justice how much stuff was going on around them, balloons, bouncy castles, loads of bands, tractors, and lorries -truck ;) -

So yayyyy

I don’t know if you know about the horse meat scandal in Tesco burgers in Ireland and the UK.. But to everyone over here this picture is just epic :p

BANADA STABLES HOODIES

Probably the best picture of what was going on around them, and no one batted an eyelid! Star, Mindy and Blue, though Blue was racing the vintage tractor the whole time….

Okay one more… The funny bit about this is there’s an old man dressed as St. Patrick on the trailer behind us. After each parade there’s normally like three around the place and drinking haha.

So there’s a bit of Irishness on Judgemyride for you :) Sunday was also the 1st aniversary of mine and Blue’s first 1.1m together!

Hi guys! (Oh lord you’ve turned me American :O )

Soo long time no chat! But  unlike all ye guys who are showing, I don’t have any shows coming up for months, which is sad. But we are actually opening a small riding school (just finished a 9 box american barn during the christmas period, forgot to say!) and so we wouldn’t have time to compete anyways, as we have loads to do and we are opening on the first weekend of April!

Actually Carol asked this time last year for pictures of where we live… which I didnt give because Blue lived in a shed and we only had a mucky field! So I’ll have to get you some now everything is lovely and we have an arena…and I’m riding like 3 ponies every day after school..so life is good (And I get to eat lots of food coz of all this exercise! haha  :) )

BASICALLY though, I am here to ask about what to do when releasing for heather…  Since she got her back done (Carol she stopped bucking! Yay! I started to relax my knee so I’d stop falling off -hahaha- and she stopped bucking! ) she’s been leaping over the jumps and really using herself , which I mean is great, but I never feel like I’m releasing enough and I’m lying on her neck? She’s stretching her neck down more than in the second picture. I know you all love automatic release on her but I personally dont think I have a strong enough base if something goes wrong, and it’s not taught around here (well the only eq. your taught around here is to go forward over the fence!) so I’ll probably end up doing it wrong.

Any other ideas?

(Sorry for the novel!)

Buster – approx 1.1m :)

As I said we loose-jumped quite a few horses on Sunday, so I’ll be adding them in drips and drabs on the site so I don’t clog it up :) This beauty is Buster, our homebred 6 year old :) We don’t know what breed he is, as he was a surprise from my old mare Star, who’s also a “mutt” ! He’s only in serious work this winter, but has been riding on and off since he was 4 – but no place to ride ment he didnt get out alot. He adores jumping and as you can see has quite good technique! Sadly he is too small (only  14.hh) for cob classes and has no feather , and no working hunter judge would like him as he thicker set than the average one! This is his Mammy….

Star, popping around 1.1m as-well. Very different ways of jumping haha!

So we loose jumped a load of ponies on Sunday, because we got the last bit of the arena fencing done, and new show jumps! I’ve loads of pictures from the different ponies, Some ere really surprising! I’ll put them in different posts so it doesnt become confusing :)

Sooo first of is Ted (Picadilly Ted)

She lost a bit of impulsion coming up to this…

…But hit this one perfectly :)

Sadly, because we are opening a treking center we might have to sell Ted, which is annoying as she isn’t properly schooling yet and wouldn’t be suitable for begineers, but she has so much potential! :/

I posted a picture of her, when  I was in the middle of backing her.She had a few months off during the summer (No where to ride because arena was being built) If you don’t here’s a picture:

At the time she was quite lanky, but has since grown into herself. In the arena she is quite slow and difficult to get going (though dead safe) So we decided to give up just whipping her and bring her drag hunting – to show her how fun riding can be! I wasn’t planing on jumping anything because the jumps were bigger than normal, but when I lined her up behind another horse she went over them no bother! She’d only been really pushed over a crosspole (which she’d knocked XD )

So very proud!

Remember this pony I was in the middle of backing? Well after a few months off during the summer (No where to ride because arena was being built) If you don’t here’s a picture:

Not putting this in to judge obviously because of the copyrights. I might ask how much to buy it would be :)

This is my friend (also called Roisin XD ) riding our pony, Mindy. We’re opening a riding school in the spring and Mindy is going to be our star! She’s so good as she’ll go nice and slow for beginners but will really up a gear if her rider wants! She’s a babe out hunting!

Funny story…. This was all through bog tracks (with jumps) and across rivers. As its so wet no farmers will let us on their land. So we were going into the river, and alot of ponies had already been through, so the sides had like 1.5m muck at the side . Ted put on hoof into the muck, pulled back, then lept into the water XD I landed infront of the pommel school shoes drenched (i’d forgot my boots) and nearly falling off. Then I went over to the verge to climb off, put 1 foot on the verge and what did she do, only jump it!

Always really liked this video and how he went in it, but looked over it there, and it’s amazing how much we’ve improved since then (April) . Even his neck and muscles (though we’ve along way to go to get to any half decent standard!) Judge anyways? I got a new saddle since then (which Mam rode in last week and hates, haha oops) Love the flow in this. I don’t know why I rode to the third last fence like I did, so many others had spooky ponies that ran out and silly me rode it strong even though it’s nothing to what we’d done hunting (or even hunter trialing the week before XD ) Put it in the Hunter ring because this is what us Irish call Working Hunter, but because it doesn’t match your american hunter I can change it if you want :)
