Being Prepared for Winter Schooling for both horse and rider.

Hi,

I live up in Syracuse, NY and am actualling getting very serious about the 2013 show season. I am starting up my leasons in January 2013 and was wondering. What should I do to have my horse and myself prepared for our lessons? Other than the obvious strechting for the both of us and a good amount warming up and cooling down, what else should I do? I have not bought winter breeches for myself yet and looking into getting a few for my schooling and lessons. Is there other gear that makes winter riding a little warmer? Right now I have 3ft of snow on the ground so trail rides are out of the question. My girlie would get to tired I would like to think trekking through the snow. All suggestions are gladly accepted! Happy New Years everyone!

My goals for the 2013 Show Season with my mare.

Wow time to think about 2013 already! I am pumped up for the 2013 show season already! I have made plans to show my 17 year old turning 18 arabian mare this June in the Arabian Hunter Pleasure Ring and the Sport Horse ring on the Arabian circuit.
My Goals for this year, well its complicated. My first and foremost goal is to have great Equitation in the hunter arena to win my first blue ribbion. My second goal is to have my mare and I make it on the Hi Point awards at the end of the year for our Region 16. My third goal would be to compete in the Region 16 Arabian Horse Show this year and place. It may seem unantainable right now with 3 feet of snow outside but thank you to whoever invented indoor arenas!
I made a promise that I would work hard on myself getting fit for the saddle and have my mare in tip top show shape. I have the motivation, I am working on the skills to be a winner even if it means me just having the best rides I can achieve. I love the fact I can post videos and pictures on JMR and get awsome feedback. I will be doing alot more of as the my first show approaches.
My goals are atainable to me and I will work hard to atain them. I want to show others you don’t need to be rich, just to be rich in horsemanship skills to do so. I would love to be my daughter’s role model.

Happy New Year and Safe SHow Season for everyone!

Happy Halloween!!

Our Witchie side!

Dawns Dee Lite and I would like to wish everyone a safe and Happy Halloween! Don’t forget to treat your horses!!

Dawns Dee Lite’s first time jumping @ Benefit Show

This is Dawns Dee Lite(barrel racer hopefully turning hunter-jumper) jumping crossrails with flowers for the first time ever! I apologize for the blurrieness for the first two fences. Of course it happened right when she refused. I believe my stirrups are too long for this but if I put up another whole I felt like a jockey. Hoping to get half- hole leathers very soon! I thought for the first time she did well. She did place 5th in this class. Please feel free to judge the both of us. We have all winter to work on us!

Having fun at the New York State Fair Barrel Race

So On August 25, 2012 My mare and I were entered in the NY State Barrel Race more for the fun and experience than anything. Well when it was our turn a certain horse didnt want to go in the arena. Luckly it only took a quick spankin(with my flat palmed hand) and away we went. Wrong lead and all! So we reach the first barrel which she decieded to stop then turn. Second she decieded trotting was the best way to go but then cantered on the correct lead to the third barrel. Well coming coming she decieded that she wanted to run home. So I agreeded and while asking her to finish running home my hat flew off! I will add this as a another reason for me to wear a helmet. No need to worry about that flying off!!
running home

Here is us just starting to warm up Before the race.

From hunter to Show jumper(rider)

I was wondering how to smoothly transistion from hunters to show jumping classes. I have mostly done Rated “A” shows locally in the hunter ring. But Have been intrested in the show jumping world and I believe my mare would prefer jumpers. I am looking around for a show jumping trainer so that I can start training for next year*crossing fingers*. What kind of exercises can(flat or jumping) I do with my mare to prepare for up and coming lessons? And Am I pushing it to hoping to show next year in jumping? Right now I am taking a break and taking slow trail rides. Thank you all in advance.
