Hey JMR! Well we survived our GHM clinic! While he thought we were too green for the clinic(which I knew when I signed up!), I think George was impressed with my hot little TB and we were able to do everything he asked, just not as skillfully as the others! He said we were gutsy and sharp, just needed an education! It was Pari’s first time doing oxers or liverpools and he handled it fabulously, I’m so proud of him! We advanced farther this weekend, then I think we have in the past 2 years on our own, it was a great experience! So would you tell me what you think of us? I’m not really sure the demensions of the jump, it was an up to three foot class, so I’m guessing around 2’6″, not sure how wide though. Thanks everyone!
Sore Back and Gymnastics
Hey there JMR! I have two totally seperatr questions but I didn’t want to clutter up he site so I am putting them in the same post if that’s okay! First off, I took my horse to the vet a couple weeks ago to get a splint checked and he mentioned his lower back was a little sore. I am 99.99% sure his saddle fits and he didn’t think it was my saddle anyway, just because he is a jumper, but he suggested getting one of those white foam(I think?) halfpads. I usually use a fleece type wither relief pad to keep it from sitting too low on his withers. So, what should I get? Just a plain one or a front riser? Or would a different tupejof halfpad be better? I can put a pic up of that helps!
Also, I want to do some gymnastic exercises with my mare and didn’t know if anyone had any suggestions? I want to introduce oxers and we are ready for some challenging lines. I don’t know how far apart to set everything though, I know my geldings stride length but I am just borrowing the mare from my sister while my guys splint heals. She is only like 14.2-14.3 hh.
Thanks everyone!!
My New Mare
Hey there! I just rescued this mare an was wondering if anyone could giver a conformation critique? She is a 13 year old mutt(I’m thinking qh/appy/draft. Opinions?), who had been sitting in a pasture for the last 10+ years with little handling. The owners couldn’t afford to feed themselves, much less her and her buddy, so animal control seized her an. I adopted her a few days later! She’s very sweet and is learning quickly, I just got her about 10 dad ago an she is now able to haltered, led, and touched all over. So what do you think of her conformation? I’m hoping to make her a pony club/4h horse for my 10 year old sister…eventually! She is a lot thinner than she look in these photos by the way, he had a thick coat! Thanks guys!!
Please judge Kyleigh and Rosie!
Hey there JMR! This is me and my horse Rosie! She’s not the horse I primarily ride, I’ve only been riding her consistently this year, usually 3-4 days a week. We are doing 2′ here, it is her second or third time jumping this high. Sorry for the quality! It’s from a video. Please judge horse and rider! Any input is welcome and I would appreciate it! Any ideas on waht she would be good for? I’m thinking show jumping though she would be an easy eq horse too, she is super smooth. Also, do I look huge on her or am I just used to riding a bigger horse? She is 14.2 and I am 5’8″. Thanks all!
George Morris Clinic
Hi there! I am going to a George Morris clinic in April, and I am hoping someone can help me out on what to expect! I have never been to a clinic, let alone a GM clinic, so I want to make sure my horse, and myself, are prepared.
First off, what does my horse need to know? We are doing the up to 3′ class. We are doing 2′ right now but are on track to be jumping 3’6″ by the clinic. He leg yeids well and has a fairly solid w/t/c (we sometimes have trouble with him bucking going into the canter). We have never done a full course but we do grids and mini courses. I have 60 days, what should we work on?
Secondly, what should we wear? I don’t want to be the one who gets yelled at for my attire/tack LOL! I know he hates fleece girths so I will get a new one, however, does it have to be leather? Does he have a preference of running or standing martingales? I use open fronts on my horse but they arent the $200 leather ones, just pvc/neoprene, are those fine? I wasn’t going to braid him, just bathe him, pull his mane, and trim him like for a show. Is that fine? For myself, GM requires a collared shirt, belt, spurs and a crop, correct?
Thank you very much to anyone who can answer these questions! If there is anything else I need to know, thanks for that also!
How to blanket with a clip.
Hey guys! I am considering giving my thoroughbred a trace clip because it is still in the 50′s or 60′s during the days here. It is supposed to get colder in January/February but for now he get’s pretty sweaty after a workout. If I do go with a trace clip/strip clip, do I blanket him as a clipped or non clipped horse? I am going to buy the Smartpak Ultimate blankets but they only come in light and medium. I won’t need a heavy if I clip right? Thanks all!
Please Judge Paradise and I!
Hey JMR! Paradise and I had a great ride today. We spent all this week working on cantering and he is doing great, last week he was barely canter one side of the arena. Today we added some jumping. Here we are jumping 1’6″ which I know is pretty low, but he has only jumped this high and it was his first time jumping a gate. It took some persuading but he finally gave me a good effort! So what do yall think? I don’t know if you can judge him much in this but what about me? My main discipline is showjumping but I focus alot on my eq, I want to be correct! I’ve been pretty much on my own for the last year and a half while I have had him but I will be starting lessons at an eventing barn in the coming weeks. Sorry its a little blurry! Thanks all for the comments!

When To Raise The Jumps
Hey all! I was just wondering when everyone raises their jumping heights. I have been jumping the TB all summer but I only rode twice a month, now I ride every day and jump once a week. We only jump 1’3″. How often should I move up? Every other week? Once a month? What do you do? Thanks guys!!
Tall Boots
Hi everybody
I am in the market for new tall boots and was just wondering if anyone had suggestions/opinions. I have had my saxon equileathers for almost two years now, they were my first pair and they were great, but the fake leather stuff is tearing off and the soles are about to come off. So I guess it’s time to splurge on a new pair. I want leather this time, but I need something that will stand up to daily use, not just show boots. I don’t show, though I am hoping to get a working student position at a barn this summer, and hopefully will get some show experience there, but that won’t be their main use. And I need to stay under $300, hopefully under $200 but I know it might be hard to find quality in that price range. So any suggestions? I am looking at the Mountain Horse® Venice Zip Field Boot, the Tredstep Donatello Field Boot, or the Ariat Heritage Select Field Boot but I am open to others
Thank you to all who can help me!!
Paradise Free Jumping
Hey guys! The is my horse free jumping. I have posted a couple of posts on him, but to refresh, he is a 6 year old OTTB. He is a green jumper, I only rode him like twice a month this summer, but I’m able to ride 6 days a week now. I had this jump set at a foot but he over-jumped…a lot. He wasn’t such a fan of the whole free jumping thing, we only got him to jump twice. My sister kinda screamed when he jumped so you might want to turn off your speakers. Anywho, please tell me what you think of him, thanks to all who judge!!
