Here is Oreo and I at our show this month. He was so sparkling clean!

First Level 2
This is Oreo and mine’s first time competing First Level test 2 and I was very pleased with it. We scored a 61.622% and we won the class.
Please judge us. I know Oreo’s hind end is trailing a bit in the leg yeilds…we struggle with that. Gonna be working hard over the summer!
Anyways, please judge both pony and rider. Thank you!
First Level 1!
Hello! Karen, you had asked to be informed about how mine and Oreo’s show went. Well, it went way better than I thought it would! Oreo and I broke 60% in both First Level 1 and 2!
We also got a 66% in our Training Level musical freestyle.
Below is a video of First 1.
This test scored 62.069% and we were placed 3rd…less than one point away from 2nd! I am so proud of Oreo and how well he is doing! I will post First Level 2 once it is done loading
Please judge! Thanks in advance!
In need of a little help
My lease, Oreo, and I have just started to show First Level. I am very happy with how far we have come, but we have a show on Saturday and he has always been very heavy in the bridle. It seems that no matter what I do, I can’t get him to carry himself. Any tips on this? I know that he has always had this bad habit, even when he used to be a jumper. I ride him in a hollow mouth snaffle with a flash. Any advice is great. Thanks!
SJ round from very first horse trial! :)
Here’s what Fritz and I did over the weekend…he took me to my very first horse trial! It was very fun and the show jumping round was easliy my favorite. We had one of the fastest times for sj…52 seconds. Too bad we got eliminated on xc
Anyways, I was very happy with this round. Fritz landed on his correct lead over every fence…something we’ve been working extrmemly hard on. He was FLYING around the course and just having so much fun…this pony really loves to jump. We were told to run out of the sj ring after we crossed the finish line. As you can see, we ran. Fritz was just having a blast and I enjoyed letting him run a bit
Please judge. Sorry for the poor quality…it was recorded from my phone.
Intro B from my first horse trial :)
Here is Fritz and I over the weekend at our first horse trial. I was very happy with this test, as we have been struggling in our dressage lately. It’s not exactly Fritz’s favorite thing to do…his little side step after the first halt shows what he thinks of dressage lol. He’d much rather be jumping
Anyways, the score for this test was 38.13%, which was very good, considering all of the struggles we’ve been having. We’ve had lots of problems stopping at X (and just staying stopped in general), so the fact that he stopped both times made me extremely happy. Free walk is a little rough but please judge what you can.
Working with Drafts
Hey, JMR! My barn just got a new horse and he is my new project. His name is Gideon (I call him Big G
) and he is a 16.1hh Percheron/QH. He is a super sweet boy.
I have never had any experience with a draft…unless you count my 14hh Haflinger. Big G is very strong and sometimes difficult for me to steer. I have a hard time with him listening to my leg for turns, as I am only 5’1″ and used to riding ponies. He does respond really well to my leg for forward movement. I do ride with a dressage whip, as he likes to bulge his shoulders, but a light tap on his shoulders gets him to straighten.
So, I guess I’m just having steering problems. I have seen a longer legged rider on him and she did not have the steering problems I have been having. So does anyone have any advice for a girl who’s used to ponies and now has a HUGE horse to ride?
Here’s a picture of me on him, so you can see. My leg does look long on him, but my leg is not as effective because of just how wide he is. I’ve never ridden a horse as wide as him and I have a hard time keeping my calf on. Oh, and in case anyone is wondering, he is currently in a slow twist eggbutt, but will soon be switched to a dressage legal snaffle
For New JMR Judge: Training Level Musical Free (anyone else can judge too!)
So, before this, both Oreo and I had never done a musical freestyle. This is the first time we ever showed it. I am pretty proud of it, as I cut all my music and created the program myself. It got a score of 62.7%, which I was SUPER happy about!
Any tips or ideas are greatly appreciated. Also, I know I was posting on the wrong diagonal on the last circle….you’d think with how long I’ve been riding I wouldn’t do that haha
Oh wells, happens to all of us
Anyways, please judge and enjoy!
