Landing in the heels

Hi,
I have just leased a jr jumper, and whilst my balance is excellent, core and leg are strong, I tend to pinch my knee and neglect landing in my heels (According to my trainer). Before I can move up to the low’s she insists I land in my heels. I agree, but I train with her only once a week and am not sure on how to practice it or even convince my habitual self to do so. SO my question is- what are some good exercises to landing in your heels from a jump?

Thanks!

Leasing

Hey everyone, a little follow up on my last post… I did a lot of browsing and I found a horse that Im going to try, and so far like a lot (seen him at shows, looked up USEF record, AND the well known trainer that is marketing him agreed to let him go to my private farm on lease so long as its the right horse for what I am wanting to do etc)

My question is in regards of a prepurchase. Now, I know a lease is not a purchase, BUT the price of this lease is substantial. Should I run a basic blood/ flexing/ etc test on him if I like him? Also, is it appropriate to ask for a Trial for a lease?

Thanks Again,

C

Horse Shopping

Hi everyone,

So its my last junior year and I have been training and selling ponies/ horses and saving the money in order to lease a Nice horse for my last year. Well I just sold my last project and I have $XX,XXX to spend (mid five figures). SO now I am ready to shop, BUT I am worried about a couple of things. 1) I have my own private farm as where I am located there are no really great trainers/show barns. Because of this, this past season I traveled 2 1/2 hours (1 way) every other week to train with a really well known GP trainer and meet her at shows the weekend in between. It was a great experience but very hard to keep up with because of the traveling. (I am still in highschool so my parents had to help haul and they have Full time jobs as well). SO, we asked our trainer if she had any recommendations of trainers closer (within 1 – 1/2 hours) and she only had names but no actual knowledge of the trainers etc.

So for the past few months while I was finishing up the last few projects I have been on my own. And now I want to try some horses for lease. But the problem Im most worried about is that I wont be going with a trainer to try the horses as im not really “with ” one. This usually never was an issue because I was only shopping for horses under 20K and for sale. **** Would it be innapropriate for me to try Six Figure horses for lease without a trainer? What are the chances the owner will let me take a horse to my private farm on lease? I will ask the trainer I had been riding with for a reference, and she is really, really well known.

I have been working really hard my entire life to finally be able to have a nice mount that I can finally “compete” with and not just train. Will my independence be an issue??

*************** almost forgot to add. Once I find the right horse I will be taking lessons with it with top trainers I have found with the intention of boarding with them once I find the right one.

THANK YOU FOR READING AND YOUR KIND RESPONSE

costs

Hi all, looking for everyone’s opinion here :)

1) How much would you pay someone to do basic care for 3 Horses.
This would include Stall Cleaning & Setting up:Hay, water, and bedding.

2) How much would you charge to lease out a private facility.
Facility includes
~3 Stall Barn with asile, Heated Washstall, feed room, completeley finished tackroom (heated, insulated, locked etc) 12×12 Stalls
~3 Turnouts each with a “Run in” (premade barns with doors rigged open)
~ 150X200 All weather footing riding ring with a course of jumps and Lights
~20 Acres of trails leading to state forrest
~small cross country field
~ Services on site ( Horse owners live on property and would provide holding for farrier, vet, feed grain etc)

Rates per month would be ideal. Let me know what y’all think!!!

Boots!

Is there any place online where I can order parlanti boots? I want the Miami Zip. I just left HITS and that is the last show this summer I was at where they have fittings and sell them. I need them asap. Im also open to used ones if they are in good condition.

ALSO are there any other boots you guys prefer? I just sold my Monacos. I use the tredstep Da vinci’s for schooling, i just want something nicer for shows.

THANKS!

Supplements

After purchasing my new horse and realizing the poor health condition he was in after leaving the sale barn, I used the SmartPak Wizard to create a daily supplement regimine for him.. After filling out the survey this is what was “perscribed” (i use that term very loosely in this scenario)

Absorbine Flex + Max
1 scoop
Cocosoya Ultra SP™
1 scoop
Grand Hoof Pellets
1 scoop
Natural Vitamin E Pellets by SmartPak (formerly SmartE)
1 scoop
Nu-Image
1 scoop
Pure Lysine
3 scoops
Ultra-Elite Digest
1 scoop

He has been on this for about a month, however after reading the previous post on here about electrolytes (sp) and Carol’s concern about consulting a vet before supplementing the diet due to the potential over doseage of Vitamins and minerals, I wanted to make sure ALL of this is ok??

Thanks in advance.

another bit question…

hi!
My trainer wants me to get a regular gag for my pony jumper. I have no experience with gags so I know nothing about them/how they work/ or what i need to buy.

Could someone post what bit i need/ equiptment that goes with it?
And how to put it together?
Also how should it fit?

THANKS!
(i would ask my trainer but i only see her once a week and i need to ride in it before then)

Tennsesse Walkers

I know we have all heard/ seen the latest news about the Tennesse Walking Horse Show world… and it sickes me. Now, being from hunter jumper land I have a few questions about the dicipline. Does the breed naturally step/ preform like that ? With the exaggerated gates or is it all due to some type of artificial practice.
Also, Is the type of practice shown in the media common??

Thanks in advance

New Horse

I just recently purchased a gelding by the irish stallion Cruising. He is a Dappled Grey, 17 hh gelding who had been doing the hunters but now will be doing the jumpers with me. He is a special horse so he needs a special show name! The one he has now is insufficient and common. I’d like to stick with something that has “Cruising” or “cruise” in it but not a tacky one ;)

If anyone has any ideas please post them! He will be showing on the A/AA circuit in the Junior Jumpers in Zone 5 if that helps.
Thanks SO much in advance

bits…

I have a really talented pony jumper. Scopey, fast, and agile. She loves her job but unfortunately too much! She is so game that sometimes she locks her jaw and runs to the next jump, unfortunately resulting in a rail sometimes. We used to ride in a twisted D, then a Pelham which I wasnt a fan of on her because she hollows out due to the curb. I tried a Myler Level 2, 3 ring with a sliding nose rope with gag action and that seemed to work very well! Until the next course, where she ignored the bit again.

My trainer who is a well known Grand Prix rider in my region, suggested having 3 bridles with different bits on them for shows so that my pony doesnt get the chance to “harden” to the bit in each class.

She suggested that I Use The 3 ring nose gag
and peraps the Pelham with a flash bridle.
she didnt mention what i should use for the 3rd but i assume something along those lines.

I’m not a fan of the Pelham on this mare, but what are other bit/ nose band combinations that are similar with a slight difference that i ould try?
thanks in advance.
