Cordero Zaffiro [Schooling]

Thought you may be interested in seeing this photo my sister took of Charlie and me schooling before our first competition this spring!  I just love this, he’s giving me such a fantastic effort :) If anyone has any helpful tips for the following trouble, please share!  I’ve noticed, while on course (showing specifically) I feel my heels lifting.  My leg typically stays right where I want it, but for some reason my heel comes up and instead of pushing weight into them, I put too much weight on the balls of my feet.  I shorten my stirrups a hole  or two when I jump (depending on average fence height), and my heel feels great on the flat (I am very thorough with my flat work).  Maybe I just need some time to adapt my style to the bigger effort he is giving me over the higher fences?  Not sure, but if you have tips i’d love to hear them!  Since this photo was taken we’ve been to two competitions; Garden State (i posted a video and photo earlier) we did the low jr/ao division and ended up champion and 1st in the classic.  We also did the Old Salem Farm Spring show, where we competed in the medium jr/ao division and ended up 2nd in the classic.  Next week we’re off to HITS Saugerties to take a shot at the highs :) )  As you may know, i’m a Just World International Rider Ambassador, and being that I donate a percentage of my yearly winnings to such a wonderful cause, I am extremely proud of our results thus far.  Thanks!

Thank You!

GState 2013

So Garden State is my first competition this year, Charlie and I haven’t shown since November so we kept it fair and have decided to start with the 1.20m/low jr-ao divisions.  This was my 1.20m speed from yesterday- figured i’d post it so you can see how we’re starting out!  Obviously didn’t place high in this class [actually don't know what we ended up] but we were 2nd the first day (1.20m-no video) and second today as well (low jr/ao-video i’ll post when I get it).  Cordero Zaffiro is 8 now, he has been amazing thus far! classic this Sunday to wrap up GSHS 2013. Thanks! -Taylor Burns

Cordero Zaffiro- HITS Saugerties 2012

This horse works way too hard for me!  Definitely not one of my best days! Actually, I consider this one of my least impressive; but I just want to share with you the awesome amount of effort this horse puts into his job.  He’s so cool (:   [He was 6 y/o at this time I believe]

the commentary in the background is my little sister and the woman behind the camera is a close friend :p

Jr/AO Jumpers- Princeton Show Jumping

We’ve gone to the past 2 weeks of Princeton at the new location.  It’s a beautiful facility, fantastic footing! Anyway, this is my 7 year old Holsteiner, Cordero Zaffiro, and I in the $10,000 Junior/Amatuer Owner Jumper Classic during week one. We ended up winning this class.  This time last year he was laid up with a fractured left shoulder, we’ve come a long way.

HITS Saugerties week II [lvl 6- 1.30m] placed 5

Taylor Burns & Cordero Zaffiro

He’s back!  all healed from his stress fracture & back in the show ring! 7 y/o Holsteiner gelding. he jumps higher with his left front leg, he did that when I first bought him, because he was a bit weak.  But eventually, with work, he became more square.  I think he is doing it again because he had 6 months off from his fracture in september, so he is still working on gaining all his strength back that he lost while he was off.  His left drift will fade again.. he feels amazing though!
