This is the highest scoring test to date, I will have owned this horse a year in October and have only been riding her for 9 months and she has only had 2 months professional training prior to me owning her.

I see SO much potential in the two of you. Your horse is more than capable, and you are more than capable of riding him! I love his tempo, his trot rhythm stays in the same neighborhood the whole test, and the canter is nice and forward too. The only thing that needs some work is the contact. Try and maintain a clearer connection on the outside rein in particular. Sometimes you give it away especially in the corners. Have a gentle pull on the outside rein at all times, and you can be softer and giving with the inside rein. The good news is your horse doesn’t look strong when he is soft in the jaw and accepting the contact. He is a little bit bullying you in the contact in the canter, quite a few times he snatches the reins from you. I would just stand my ground, and hold the contact on the outside rein and push him through it, from a soft encouraging place not a “I will MAKE you do it” place. Convince him it is more comfortable to go around quietly then tossing his head. Also, when transitioning down from the canter, NEVER let him pull on you. Ask him to trot or walk and then immediately give and be soft so he has nothing to hang on. Once he stops hanging on you in the down transition it won’t feel like he’s pulling you out of the saddle. He gets very distracted during the test and wants to look outside, don’t let him. Keep him positioned to the inside, you should be able to see his eyelash on the inside. This will also help to keep him in your outside rein when he is positioned correctly and not looking around. VERY capable pair, you are doing a great job with him!
