I understand, this was a horse trials, and not a “horse show”, so I will judge you & your horse accordingly.
Your horse was good in both photos with his front legs. OK…not 100% up with his knees, but consistent and obviously, careful of where the fences are. I like that in a horse. I like you Amelia, in the lower two jumping photos, but not so much over the oxer. It looks like she didn’t have enough impulsion, and jumped UP whitch made you fall back. I want you to STUDY how you look in the lower two jumping photos…….YOU LOOK GREAT! Try to copy that position as consistently as you can. In your final victory photo….get your hands off of your mare’s neck!
by the way Amelia…..I really really like your mare!
Here’s some trivia for you….what song was playing in the original Twilight movie, when Bella first went into Edward’s room?????
I’m pretty sure horse trials are a horse show. They just call the events “horse trials” for certain regions.
You get pinchy with your knee which robs you of your lower leg. I think letting go in the knee will allow you to absorb the shock of the jump better.
Also in your victory gallop your hands are wayyyyy too low and your forearm is braced down and elbows poking out. Your horse also seems to be disagreeing with your hand set.
Remember whether flatting, jumping or just taking your victory gallop, you need to always keep your elbows bent and to your sides, thumbs turned up and hands level to the horse’s mouth no matter what you are asking the horse to do.
WOAH WHAT?!?! A Horse Trial is an event, a proper, recognized show for eventers. We use that term to distinguish it as a regular show… there are HT, CH(ampionship division), 3D (long format 3 day), and CIC/CCI (international 3 day events).
Something to help with the knee pinching, work on keeping the inside-back of your lower leg on the horse rather than the inside. You will physically be unable to pinch when you do that, using the inside of your leg promotes pinching.
Work more grids, Lilly is jumping well but is using power rather than form to get over fences.
Will do! Thanks for the critique. The oxer picture she actually took off slightly early so she had to compensate to make it up over the fence.
Thank you!
ermm.. I have NO earthly clue what music was playing. I’ve seen the movies, but I’m not a huge Twilight fan.
