So here’s a couple flat photos of Samson. Any tips on getting his head down more consistently? He goes on the bit nicely and all, we just have trouble holding his frame. Any ideas for him would be great! Just keep in mind that he’s REALLY green. I know these are not my most flattering photos, so please judge just Sam. Thanks in advance!

I really like this horse. He has a great color, great tail and has a NICE canter. I love him in the last photo even if his head is a little high.
Since he is green at home try schooling him with a wider set of hands. With green horses that are a little inconsistent in the bridle that extra breathing space really gets them to stretch and relax. When he becomes more consistent you can bring your hands closer to the 6 inch spacing.
You know, Casey I think this horse just has a really uphill build. He is well engaged in both photos. He could bridle up a bit more, but he is always going to give a first impression of an “equitation/jumper” type rather than the traditional more level hunter. Try raising your hands a couple inches so you are not pulling down on the mouth. When you force the bit onto the bars of the mouth, the horse responds by stiffening the neck and jaw against the discomfort.
Alright, yeah he kinda does :-/ I tried raising my hands today and it worked really well! I’ve been trying to pick my hands up (just off the neck) for a little while now, but it worked super today
I’ll try to send in some photos for comparison
