Hello! This video is from a local schooling show at my barn this weekend. I know the jumps look tiny . Recently me and my mare have actually been schooling 3′-3’3, but I took a pretty bad fall(a cracked helmet and a bad concussion was the result) a couple weeks ago that didn’t do anything good for my confidence. So we’re starting back up small. I’d really appreciate it if I got an eq critique, even though this is the jumpers, since I did qualify for our local Mini Medal finals at the beginning of the year, and I’d like to do really well at them ![]()

Good for you for moving down a level, thats the best way to bring back your confidence, successful rounds!
When your horse picked up the canter the first thing i thought was a “fart sound” haha. For the jumpers i’d like to see a strong moving canter from the moment the horse picks it up in the ring. It almost seems 4 beated at times in the corners. Thats when you need to encourage with your leg.
Overall it was very flowing, but again the canter could have used some “uhmph”.
As for you over every other fence you would let your shoulder go before your hands. It wasn’t extreme but its something i noticed. You need to let your hands go a second before your hip angle closes.
Oh, don’t I know it! Some “uhmph” would have been good. It’s a really good thing we only did these two classes, she was so lazy! I forgot my spurs, so I borrowed my trainer’s, which are about twice as long as mine, and she still was being a pain to get moving. And letting my hands go first is definitely something I need to work on more–my hands in general need more work, since I balance off them more than I should.
Use the time before you get to the first jump to “test” what you have. If you have a horse who likes to pull then take that time to school them up on a half halt. If you have a horse like yours that is being pokey and slow, take that time to get them going off your leg. If you’re legging her and not getting a response, give her a boot, or a rub with your spur, or a tap with a stick behind your leg. Don’t keep asking and letting her get away with not giving you the proper response because then she’s going to not take your aid seriously. Even in the EQ and Hunter rings, start with a little more and then you have room to balance back if you need or you have the power to leg up to the jump if you see it to move up.
