This is me and my horse Armani. It’s actually one of the worse photos of my eq but it was a perfect example of my problem. I always have problems with my lower leg slipping back, and i want to use an auto-release but with my leg not perfectly stable, i don’t want to auto-release if it’s only going to leave my knees pinching and upset his jump. Do you have any suggestions?
ps i posted before, but i got no feedback from the judges (about 3-4 weeks ago)

Armani….WOW! This height is obviously NO problem for him. I get the feeling….he’s going places! Of course, if you play to “go with him”…….you better start doing lots of homework without your stirrups…he is just such a powerful jumper! You stick with that crest release, but you do need to get your body forward a little more.
Great idea to start working on an automatic release, too few American riders do them correctly (or at all) nowadays. How my trainer had me fix my leg was by having my use the inside-back of my leg rather than the inside. That only allowed me to put even pressure through my knee, rather than grip extra with it. I know it’s not “correct” with the eq-y jumpers today, but I event and my trainer is from Europe… it works, it just doesn’t look as pretty. It took me maybe 4 months of jumping once every other week or so to get that feeling of an even pressure through my leg drilled into my head. Now I can use the inside of my leg and maintain that even feel.
