Sothern Ontarion Combined Training Association (SOCTA)- Entry level Stadium round

HI, This is Martin and I doing our first show! Martin is a pony i have been working with in lessons for a little while. I took him to our first Event today and together we got third place over all. Martin is a 10 yr old pony, and he is mainly blind, so he is PRETTY special! please judge us both :D I only have our stadium round uploaded so far, but will upload our cross country when i can. :)

This pony jumps just fine….really good with his front legs. What happened from fence 2-3? Looks like quite a zig-zag. YOu gotta keep him straight! This doesn’t look like it was a pony class…so the distances were set for horses. Therefore, you either have to go very fast & get the horse strides, or…..probably better…..slow down and ADD 1 stride in each line. I think that would be best for you pony….but it’s YOUR responsability…..he didn’t walk the lines….you did, so you have to make his strides FIT!!!

  2. I have a feeling that the zig-zag and the other iffy distances was because HE COULDN”T SEE THE FENCES properly!! If the pony is mostly blind, he should not be jumping. That’s just scary, thinking of a partly or mainly blind horse jumping, let alone running XC…
If you insist on jumping, you need to make sure to present the fences in such a way that he can see them easily, or work on a cue that lets him know theres a jump coming up.

Catherine- this pony has vision in one eye still. He does jumping all the time with me and it is actually his favourite thing to do! We wouldn’t push him if he didn’t want to do it, you’re right though, i did bring him in at a slight angle to the left, so he probably didn’t see it quite well enough at first. But before every jump i tell him “Here’s a fence”, just to give him the heads up
