Bareback jumping Kitt

I’ve been working on my position and trying not to stand in my stirrups. Would anyone have any advice on how to fix that? I already do alot of bareback and no-stirrup exercises but i always stand up.. such a bad habit :/ Any other advice would be great aswell sorry about his knees he was already starting to unfold. Thank you!

    My trainer used to ask me if I loved my saddle. I’d say “yeah, lol?” so then she’d say “THEN STAY CLOSE TO IT!” That seemed to help me some, but not as much as another trainer telling me to think about “mooning” the people behind me. That seems to help keep my seat close to my saddle without being too close.

    Also, think about when your horse thrusts you up, sinking down into your heels and flexing your knee. Hope that will help! :-D

    Haha yea it’s a baad habit :/ I’ll try that today thanks so much! He also sometimes jumps big and I don’t wanna be on his back but it’s mainly just standing in my stirrups. He’s always spot on though couldn’t ask for a better horse!

    Whenever I jump a horse who really “cracks their back” I always try to get closer to the tack, I feel like I’m with the motion better if I’m closer to the tack. I’m also an eventer so we prefer to be closer to the tack too. I have found that it doesn’t really affect a horse’s jump if you sit on their back as long as you don’t slam on it. One of the greatest eventers of all time (IMO) Phillip Dutton does this often and he regularly competes internationally. :-) So its not the worst thing in the world (as long as you release of course!)

    Ok will practice! Hehe I wish this guy could event but I don’t know how he is over natural stuff yet.. Can’t wait to try new stuff in the spring hopefully ill be ready an closer to the tack by then (;

    In your jumping picture posted here, I don’t think you’re standing up. I think you have slid back on your saddle. Your butt and your leg are both too far back on your saddle… :-)

    Ooh well there’s another problem. My position is always wrong somehow.. I don’t have a trainer/take lessons really so it’s harder.

  7. Bridget says:

    This one is an easy fix!!! Just grab mane and start your two point a touch earlier. :-)

  8. Kit-Kat22 says:

    I try not to do that… Roached his mane so I wouldn’t.

  9. Bridget says:

    Why not grab mane? I still do sometimes and I compete at 3’6″ jumpers and Training eventing. “Ain’t no shame in grabbin’ mane” is the way I look at it.

    Eh.. Thought it would make me reply on his neck more and he does some nasty refusals and spins.
