me jumping my aqha mare 2’6″ at pony club camp

PLEASE JUDGE

This is me and Miss Tequila Brooke, jumping 2’6″ at my Pony Club camp. This is the highest I jumped because of her nevicular, and this is the highest she ever jumped because i taught her. In this jump it was a bounce jump. My position is “okay” because my heels were barely down, and my hands were wide to keep her moving forward, i had a big release to give her her mouth. (And yes I always have a weird look on my face when I’m jumping) The other jumps she jumps she over jumps them, but in this one she is fine. She is also a showmanship Queen, and before i got her she was a western show horse, and i transformed her into a eventing horse. She got me to my D2 in Pony Club, and I’m going for my D3 this fall. I only have been riding for a year-ish. And next year I am going to ride my moms Apendix Paint gelding Toby just for flat, he is 4 and can do flying lead changes, and lateral work.

THANK YOU :)

Can you take one of the copies off an enlarge the other? It is quite hard to see details when they are that small…

your elbows are out quite a bit… but it looks like your pulling her back. try releasing on her neck, past your chin, that should keep your elbows from going out so much (: i can’t see anything else… because of the angle, it kindof sorta looks like your leg fell back behind the girth

  3. Catherine Norman says:

I agree with mollymoo, you appear to be balancing on her mouth because your leg has slipped back, and your balance was a bit off. Bring your elbows in.
I do not understand that your hands were wide to keep her moving forward. That makes no sense. Hands where there is a straight line from elbow to bit and pushing your horse into the bridle keeps them going forward. Wide hands to narrow hands, in front of a jump, can be used as a funneling technique by experienced riders for a horse that wants to run out. But keeping your hands wide can actually be claustrophobic for some horses, depending on how wide and for how long you keep them there.
She is good with her front end and her neck, from what I can see. Please be careful with the jumping and work because of her navicular, make sure her vet okays the work she is in.

I still would like to see an enlargeable photo…

    Hi!

I hope this doesn’t sound rude, but since you’re a still in your lower ratings I’d like to point out some things.
Your heels aren’t really down, they’re just level. There’s also no such thing as “keeping hands apart to keep her forward”, and this isn’t a big release. You’re actually pulling against her mouth.

D3′s are my favorite level to give ratings too! I hope your rating goes well

MTB jumps GREAT! Don’t pull back when she jumps, instead, reach your hands FORWARD!!

thank you all of you!! i will do a bigger release and i forgot to put on the discription that she rushes jumps, but i will do the bigger release, and i couldnt get it to delete the other pic and enlarge the other one, my computer was being really stupid. and i will work on getting my heels down thanks all of you!!

That’s what the poles to the mini grid is for. Don’t worry about controlling her speed once you get in there… the grid will either slow her right down or make sure she goes slow the next time. They need to learn to figure out stuff like that for themselves, especially if you plan on doing xc-type stuff with her (not sure what PC level you start that at, just seen a lot of PC XC photos recently)
