Hi! This is me riding my hunt seat coach’s horse, Lilly. Lilly’s a 9yo quarter horse, and she is a major over achiever. I’ve been working with her all week, and today, our 6th day of me riding, we went from her over-achiever power trot, to a nice, easy going trot that was very light and comfortable to ride in under two minutes. I was so proud of her. I know I’m in a sweatshirt so it looks like I’m hunched over but I promise I’m not. Any advice is welcome. Thanks!

I don’t mind that she is a “dun”. She’s a tall pretty horse. She doesn’t move like your standard show hunter, but she has plenty of length to her step. What’s taking so long? Six days? Get to it girlfriend! Don’t just ride her around…TRAIN HER! Shorten your reins, make her travel in a frame, and YOU DECIDE how fast she should travel. Horses like to be told what to do…..kind of like boyfriends!
Actually, she’s a buckskin. She’s a gorgeous horse and pretty mover.
Haha Rob, we always got that trot in our schooling, it just usually took longer in each ride. Two minutes was a huge accomplishment for this mare. I was riding on a loose contact because she’s going to be a lesson horse for my college and her trainer wanted her ridden like a novice because that’s the level she will most likely be used at. If she were my horse, I would definitely be asking for more frame and pace and striding extension and collection. Thank you so much!
Shamrock, thank you. I was lucky to get to work with her. I wish she was mine.
